2019 Nissan Rogue problems owners report most

2019 Nissan Rogue problems are documented in public: owners have filed 336 complaints with NHTSA, the earliest in 2019 and the most recent in 2026. Sorting those by the component the filer named puts the brakes clearly first, at 124 of the 336 complaints, two of every five filed.

A complaint is not a repair bill and not a defect finding. It is one owner telling the regulator something went wrong. What makes the count useful is the concentration: when one component takes 37 per cent of everything filed on a car, the pattern is doing more than chance.

BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA19V654000 · reported 12/09/2019

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Nissan Altima, Armada, Frontier, Kicks, Leaf, Maxima, Murano, NV, NV200, Pathfinder, Rogue, Rogue Sport, Sentra, Titan, Titan Diesel, Versa Note and Versa Sedan vehicles, as well as Infiniti Q50, Q60, QX30 and QX80 vehicles. Additionally included are 2019 Nissan GT-R and Taxi and Infiniti QX50, QX60, Q70, Q70L vehicles. The back-up camera and display settings can be adjusted such that the rear view image is no longer visible and the system will retain that setting the next time the vehicle is placed in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rear Visibility."

The risk. The lack of an image in the back-up camera display increases the risk of a crash.

The fix. Nissan will notify owners in phases, having dealers update the back-up camera settings software, free of charge. The recall began November 11, 2019 and all affected VINs should be activated. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669 or INFINITI customer service at 1-800-662-6200.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECU/ECM)21V839000 · reported 26/10/2021

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2017-2019 Rogue Hybrid vehicles. Contact with the Electronic Control Module (ECM) bracket may damage the engine harness, causing a blown fuse.

The risk. A blown fuse may cause an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

The fix. Dealers will install a harness protector cover, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 16, 2021. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is R21B6.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:ANTI-THEFT:IMMOBILIZER/PROXIMITY:KEY/SENDER23V093000 · reported 16/02/2023

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2014-2020 Rogue and 2017-2022 Rogue Sport vehicles equipped with a jackknife style ignition key. The jackknife key may collapse into a folded position while driving.

The risk. Driver contact with a key in the collapsed position could inadvertently shut off the vehicle while driving, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, if the vehicle shuts off while driving, the air bags may not deploy in a crash as intended, increasing the risk of injury.

The fix. Dealers will insert a spacer into the key slot of the jackknife key, free of charge. Interim notification letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed March 29, 2023. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 30, 2023. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is R22C5.

In owners own words

These are complaints filed about the brakes, quoted as written. They are one persons account rather than a diagnosis, and they are here because a symptom described by a driver is easier to recognise than a component name.

ON 7/20/21 @ shopping ctr opened door & seat was to floor & Dash not Displaying 'Brake' 'Start'. Sitting in seat took keys frm my pocket, held up near steering wheel & dash displayed start function. During this entire time I was pumping the brakes up & down to the floor. I started the Rogue & called Fuccillio. Yes I can bring it by. When I proceeded to put in gear 'R', the brakes seemed to hold enough. Backed up and felt brakes were normal. At Fuccillio due to time of day and too many customers ahead of me, aske to return on Wed. 7/21/21 at 10:30am. Left the car, waited for Lyft but none calle

Last month, January 2023, a light came on indicating there was a malfunction of the brakes. We thought maybe the brakes needed to be replaced. The problem is, we replaced the brakes and rotors in 2021 after an oil change and Nissan stated they were both going bad. This was odd because, when we purchased the car, in June 2019, the car had 34 miles. But at the time we took the car to Nissan, it was due for a State inspection. All NC cars have to be inspected on a yearly basis and that could've failed the inspection. In October 2022, we were hearing a loud squeaking noise and took the car to Ni

MY NEW NISSAN ROGUE HAS ONLY 356 MILES ON IT . UNIVERSAL NISSAN SOLD IT TO ME AND THE CAR'S COMPUTER SEEMS TO BE MALFUNCTIONING. IT SEEMS TO BE A HARDWARE ISSUE AND NOT A SOFTWARE ISSUE AS THEY TRIED UPDATING THE SOFTWARE WITH NO SUCCESS. THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIX THE AUTO SAFETY BRAKE. IT DOES NOT WORK FOR FRONT PEDESTRIANS OR REAR PEDESTRIAN SAFETY. THE VEHICLE ALSO DOES NOT APPLY THE BRAKES IN TIMES OF EMERGENCIES AS IT IS ADVERTISED TO DO SO. I HAVE ALMOST BEEN KILLED IN THE CAR BECAUSE THE COMPUTER IS MALFUNCTIONING AND SPEEDING UP INSTEAD OF APPLYING THE BRAKES. THE CAR IS A DEAT

I WAS IN THE PARKING LOT OF A HOME DEPOT. I TURNED RIGHT INTO AN AISLE WHERE THERE WERE AVAILABLE SPACES. AS I APPROACHED A SPOT I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR TO LET THE CAR SLOW DOWN ON ITS OWN AND RESTED MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL GETTING READY TO APPLY THE BRAKE TO BRING IT TO A FULL STOP ONCE I WAS IN THE PARKING SPACE. AS I APPROACHED TO SPACE THE CAR RESPONDED PROPERLY BY SLOWING DOWN. I TURNED LEFT WITH MY FOOT RESTING ON THE BRAKE LIGHTLY PRESSING DOWN GETTING READY TO FULLY APPLY THE BRAKE FOR THE FINAL STOP. HOWEVER, AS I PRESSED THE BRAKE THE CAR KEPT ROLLING AHEAD ON ITS O

How other model years compare

The same nameplate across the years we hold. Complaint counts fall naturally for newer cars because fewer of them have been on the road for long, so read the column as a rough signal rather than a ranking. In this set the 2018 Nissan Rogue has drawn the most complaints and the 2020 Nissan Rogue the fewest.

What to check on the brakes

Brake reports describe a pedal that goes soft or sinks, longer stopping distances, and a judder through the pedal under firm braking. Some describe the car braking by itself where an automatic system is fitted.

Buying a used 2019 Rogue

Brake hard from speed on an empty road. Pads and discs are a normal wear item and cheap to replace, so a judder is not a reason to walk away. A pedal that sinks under steady pressure is a different matter.

If you already own one

Have the fluid tested, not just the pads. Brake fluid absorbs water as it ages and a soft pedal is more often old fluid than a failed part. A fluid change costs far less than a caliper.

  • Brake firmly from speed to feel for judder or a sinking pedal.
  • Have the brake fluid moisture content tested.
  • Check pad and disc thickness against the service limit, not by eye.
  • Ask for a quote separating pads, discs, fluid and labour.
